We are a family run beeswax candle workshop located in Teotitlán del Valle, Oaxaca. The candles we make are known in our community as velas de concha (shell candles) because in our great grandparents´ time shells were used as molds to make the wax flowers that adorn our candles. Velas San Pascual was founded in 2011 and we are the third generation in our family to continue this tradition.

During the pandemic we began make smaller decorative candles as well as aromatic candles. We also began sourcing our beeswax locally, supporting small scale beekeepers. We honor our ancestors while looking towards a sustainable future.

All of our candles are hand poured, using clay and wooden molds to create decorative flowers, fruits, and birds, some of which have been in use for 50 to 60 years. These candles are still used today in the region to celebrate marriage proposals and saints´ feast days. They can weigh up to 26 pounds and stand 6 feet (1.80 meters) tall. Our candles are made with locally harvested beeswax, natural dyes, and are completely handmade by our family.
